Winter Sports In Toronto

While Toronto may not get much snow, there are many places for winter sports within an easy drive. In the surrounding region you’ll find snowboarding, snowshoeing, skiing, ice-skating, and dogsled adventure treks.

Most ski buffs know that Ontario skiing is amongst the best around. For some good cross-country, one of the most popular spots outside of Toronto is nearby Albion Hills. Here you’ll find 26 kilometers of well-groomed terrain, from beginner to expert level. Facilities include equipment rental, a heated chalet, and a full-service snack café. Albion Hills also offers downhill tobogganing, cross-country snowshoeing, and ice skating for all ages.

If downhill is more your thing, then the slopes at Dagmar Resort are just minutes from the city. At Dagmar you’ll find 17 runs with a wide range of terrain. For boarders, the terrain park offers rolls, rails, table tops and spines. You can get your state of the art equipment from the rental shop on site.

If you are a hardcore boarder, then Blue Mountain has the best known slopes in this part of Ontario. A few hours from Toronto, these slopes offer stunning countryside, wicked peaks, racing, parks and pipes. Other winter activities include tobogganing tours, sleigh rides, ice skating, snowmobiling, and winter caving tours.

The Village at Blue Mountain offers dining and nightlife, shopping boutiques, comfortable inns and suites. The lodgings here are named among some of the best accommodation in Ontario.

At the Westin Trillium House Blue Mountain Lodge, you can pamper yourself in the elegant splendor of this grand Georgian Bay resort. The lodge boasts a grill with world-class dining, and a 24-hour Reebok Gym, as well as gas fireplaces, soothing hot tubs, and a heated swimming pool.

Algonquin Dogsled Wilderness Adventures offers all-inclusive dogsled treks just a few hours from Toronto. After your long day mushing you will camp overnight in a wood stove heated tent. For your adventure you can choose from a 1 to 7-day expedition, which includes your training, equipment, qualified guides, and round-trip transportation from the city.
