Berlin Germany Luxury Hotels

The capital city of Germany, Berlin is a major international center of business and commerce as well as one of the top tourist destinations in Europe.  Berlin Germany luxury hotels cater for the visitor on business and the tourist on vacation alike, providing first-class standards, high-class services and the luxury of top-class surroundings.

Whether traditional heritage style or modern and contemporary in appearance, the Berlin Germany luxury hotels add to the wealth of fine architecture in a city famous for its history and culture. Staying in luxurious surroundings is the icing on the cake when visiting this impressive city.

For an introduction to the city's past the Story of Berlin exhibition retells 800 years of history and the Berlin Germany luxury hotels are sited within easy access of the majority of the city's famous landmarks.

The iconic Brandenburg Gate, part of the Berlin Wall during the Cold War era and reopened following the fall of the wall in December 1989, along with the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church on Kurferstendamm, stand today as symbols of the reunified Germany. Checkpoint Charlie, one of the three American-built checkpoints in the wall and referenced in many a famous spy story, is also a top tourist attraction.

The royal rooms at the reconstructed Rococo and Baroque-style Charlottenburg Palace are open to the public. Once home to Sophie Charlotte, wife of Elector Fredrick III, the original buildings were destroyed during an Allied raid in 1943. The surrounding parkland is a mix of formal gardens and open lawns featuring pavilions, the royal family's mausoleum and an 18th century teahouse.

The palace park is not the only green oasis in the city, however. Despite a population of over three million, approximately one third of the city contains lakes, rivers, forests, gardens and parks.

The largest park in the city is the Tiergarten, which was a royal hunting reserve until the 1700s when Elector Frederick III began turning the woodland into parkland and built a road up to Charlottenburg Palace. At the center of the Tiergarten is the Victory Column designed in 1864 to mark the Prussian victory over Denmark, with tree-lined pedestrian avenues surrounding it.

The park has more than 14 miles of paths and is also home to the Berlin Zoo. Founded in 1844, it is the largest zoological garden in the world with 84 acres of grounds, almost 1,500 different species and around 16,000 animals in residence. The Tiergarten is also where many of the German parliamentary and government buildings and the grand and imposing embassies are found.

Visitors can climb the spiral staircase at the Reichstag, the seat of the German Parliament and look out from the glass dome above the plenary hall. Other city towers with observation decks include the Fernsehturm television tower on the Alexanderplatz with its revolving restaurant, the Europa Center, the Tiergarten's Victory Column and the Kollhoff Tower on the Potsdamer Platz.

Potsdamer Platz is also famous for its wealth of buzzing nightspot venues and trendy shops and restaurants, as are the Kurferstendamm and Friedrichstrasse shopping streets, all with Berlin Germany luxury hotels within close proximity.

Unter den Linden ('under the linden, or lime, trees') with its tree-lined pedestrian mall is another famous street in the city and recognized worldwide.

For the visitor on business, conference centers and meeting rooms are available and Berlin Germany luxury hotels provide on-site pampering facilities such as beauty, massage and hairstyling parlors and a range of impressive leisure and fitness facilities including spas, saunas and swimming pools, gyms and exercise classes.

The list of technology amenities includes Internet access, satellite TV and iPod docking stations, while out and about, the entertainment on offer in the city ranges from opera to theaters and cinemas and the city's famed nightclubs. For cult status and the most fashionable nightclubs, the Mitte district and Kreuzbeug are particularly recommended.

Restaurants within Berlin Germany luxury hotels serve the best of cuisine with Berlin specialties, German regional dishes and international flavors featured on their menus, along with many varieties of the country's famous wines and regionally brewed beers.

Berlin can be very cold in winter. Snow is common and provides the perfect backdrop to Berlin's 60 Christmas markets, which spring up with their colorful festive atmosphere, foods and crafts.
